Bump goes “Hollywood,” on set of “Little Murder”

We got a phone call from our friend Mike Livanos.  Mike is the 2nd AD on the film “Little Murder” that is shooting part of the film here in Detroit.  You gotta love the new Michigan tax breaks for film production!  So Mike calls us up and says they’re having open auditions for bands to perform in the movie.  His direct quote was “you guys are too white, you don’t play jazz, blues, or creole…You have no shot, but come on down and have some fun!”

The decision was made to perform “Appollonia,” our cuban afro greek song that really sounds nothing like anything else we do.  It’s high energy, tons of fun, and we figure “fuck it, lets shred and do something different than everyone else who is trying to fit into this specific niche they think they want for the band.”  We got a call a couple of days later and not only did the director and producers want us to be in the film, they were going to license the use of “Appollonia” in the film as well!  Later we found out that they also picked “Last Chance” off of our second album “Incredible Consequence” to appear in a second scene.

Our day on the set was long, nearly 13 hours.  The old saying is definitely true regarding movie sets, “hurry up….and wait,” and that is pretty much what we did until it was our time to shoot.  Granted, Sterr definitely got him money’s worth from the catering and craft services truck (you’ll see that in the movie below).

An interesting side note about the day, and probably one of the biggest highlights of the entire experience was having Terrence Howard, Oscar Nominated Actor from the likes of “Crash,” “Hustle & Flow,” and “Iron Man,” sit in with us for an impromptu jam session.  What started out with him just asking to play Sterr’s guitar turned into us skipping break for dinner and co-writing a song together that he had started to write for one of his projects.  There will be more on this later!

Here is a video that kind of documents our day on the set of “Little Murder.”
